1. How do I get an account?
As described in the Accounts page, either see Mike Wollowski in his office,
or send an email to accounts @ soda.cs.rose-hulman.edu from a Rose-Hulman
address.
2. How much does a drink cost?
Drinks cost $0.40USD most of the time. However, there are times when
prices are lowered (such as stock clearance for product replacement).
3. How do I use PayPal?
If you don't have a PayPal account, go to PayPal and make one. Once that is done, go to the Edit
Account page (see Basic Usage) and make sure that your PayPal email address
is the same as your primary PayPal email address. Now that this
part is finished, go to the main page (where you can order drinks) and
on the right side of the page there's a PayPal button. Put the amount of
money you would like to transfer in the text box above the button, and then
click on said button. Follow PayPal's steps to completion and then you're
good to go.
4. I did a PayPal transfer and didn't receive my money,
what's up?
There is only one way to get your balance corrected at this point, email
accounts @ soda.cs.rose-hulman.edu, describe your problem, and for good
measure include some portion of your PayPal receipt (if you didn't get one
then it's their fault, not ours). You can prevent the problem from occuring
again by making sure that you have your PayPal email set to your
primary PayPal email address, and that it is typed exactly the
same way (case-sensitive and all that). If you think that you had it set
up correctly tell accounts @ soda.cs.rose-hulman.edu that as well, and
maybe you can be informed what PayPal thinks your primary email address is.
Another possible option is that you sent an e-check instead of an instant
transfer. An e-check has to clear your bank, and thus you don't get the
money instantly...but you get it as soon as we get it.
5. How do I change my password?
As is explained in the "Editing Your Account" area under "Basic Usage",
go to the Edit Account page (see Basic Usage) and in the password textboxes
put your current password, and then your new password twice (for
confirmation).
6. How do I change my preferences?
As is explained in the "Editing Your Account" area under "Basic Usage",
go to the Edit Account page (see Basic Usage) and change the preferences
appropriately.
7. How do I build my own WebSoda?
Go out and get a soda machine. Go out and get a PC. Connect them together
in some fashion. Put a web server on the PC. Make the web app use the
connection in some way.
8. Can you send me (some of) your code?
Unfortunately, the answer to this question will always be 'no'. For one
reason, if even old copies of our code were floating around it is possible
that someone more maliciously clever than we are could find exploits. For
two, this project is a non-profit project and the students that developed
and maintain it do so for free (or some did it for a grade). Having their
hard work be abducted by someone and made into a commercial product would
be very "un-cool".
However, in the near future we will be reviewing the security of the system
and refactoring a lot of the code. It may be possible to open up the code
once certain licensing issues are resolved.
9. I forgot my password, what do I do?
You can try sending an email to accounts @ soda.cs.rose-hulman.edu
from the same email address that you have your account registered under.
Your best bet would be to go see Mike Wollowski in person, and if he doesn't
know you already bring your Student ID.
10. How do I use my iButton?
In order to use your iButton you must add your iButton ID to the database.
To do so, go into the Edit Account Page and type in the hexadecimal ID
number. For example, the iButton pictured below has ID number
C20000007B04E602.
